THIS IS WITHOUT A DOUBT A HUGE STEP UP IN CLASS AND FACING THIS FIGHTER IN HIS OWN COUNTRY MAKES THE TASK EVEN GREATER.
YOUNG COMMENTED;  I AM 100% CONFIDENT ABOUT THIS FIGHT, IT IS THE STEP UP IN CLASS THAT I HAVE BEEN ASKING FOR AND A REAL TEST FIGHTING SO FAR FROM HOME.
I WILL BE TRAVELLING TO DENMARK WITH MY TRAINER PAUL WEIR, AND WE EXPECT TO COME HOME WITH THE VICTORY.
WE ARE STILL NEGOTIATING WETHER OR NOT WE WILL FIGHT 12 ROUNDS FOR THE WBO TITLE AS THIS WOULD BE AN ADDED INCENTIVE, ESPECIALLY AS I AM ALREADY FAIRLY CLOSE TO CHAMPIONSHIP WEIGHT.
HOWEVER THE ORIGINAL OFFER WAS AN 8 ROUND NON-TITLE CONTEST TO BE FOUGHT AT 10ST 9

THE FIGHT WILL TAKE PLACE ON 26TH MARCH 2010 AT THE ARENA MIDT, KJELLERUP, DENMARK.

YOUNG WANTS MORE TITLES

Edinburgh's Gary Young has targeted a British title fight after beating capital rival Gary McMillan for the Scottish welterweight title at the Glasgow Pavilion theatre, The 26 year old Young narrowly outpointed (96-95) his southpaw opponent who was hampered by a cut to the side of his right eye early in the fight.

The cut was caused by a head clash initiated by Mcmillan early on and got worse throughout the later rounds.

“I stuck to my game plan” said the newly crowned champion, ”which was to out-box him for the first six rounds then out-fight him for the last four.

I do feel like i didnt get the chance to shine and give my fans a mouth watering showdown as was expected due to Mcmillans constant trash talking and insults prior to the contest but like i said talk is cheap and he couldnt back it up. I think the occasion got to him because all he wanted to do all night was hold.

“Now I want to go on and win more titles and hopefully I’ll get a chance to fight for the British championship in the new year."

Southpaw Mcmillan disputed the verdict along with his trainer Terry McCormack however Mcmillans Promoter Alex Morrison didn't agree and Congradulated Young stating the result was spot on - Mcmillan was holding too much and Youngs experience seemed to tell in the later rounds.

When asked if the fight would happen again young commented " It's been a long time out for me and i now aim to chase the domestic top spots like Michael Jennings (WBU Champ) and British Champion Kell Brook, I dont owe Mcmillan any favours. If the Fight was to take place it would be on far better terms and right now its not a top priority for team Young.

Left; McMillans persistent holding spoiled alot of the action
