OUR NEW ADDITION TO TEAM YOUNG ARRIVED ON 28TH DEC 2009.
HELLO EVERYONE - I'D LIKE TO TAKE THIS OPPERTUNITY TO INTRODUCE MY BABY BOY JAI YOUNG. HE TIPPED THE SCALES AT 8lb 3oz AND BOTH MUM AND BABY ARE DOING FANTASTIC. JAI HAS SETTLED IN VERY WELL AND IS ALREADY BEING SPOILED BY HIS LOVELY BIG SISTER HAYLEY (14) AND PROUD BIG BROTHER JACK (12)
ABOVE ; ME WITH MY KIDS HAYLEY, JACK AND JAI
Big props go out to my buddy Craig McEwan for his win against Darnell Boone on saturday night at the Staples Centre here in LA. Craig, like myself, hails from Edinburgh Scotland. He is now 16 and 0 (9 KO's) at middleweight, and this is another impressive scalp he has just taken. Everyone at ringside watched Craig dominate and scored it a UD in his favour, but oddly enough he got the verdict on a split decision. Welcome to pro boxing, LOL......
Signing off for now but here's a shot of me with the Golden Boy DLH himself and another by the statue that they just erected of him. Still lovin' LA (despite the recent media craziness surrounding the death of Michael Jackson) - but also stoked about getting home for a few weeks in mid July, to see my family and friends.
Later,
Gary
A couple of weeks ago I was invitied to go round to Mike Tyson's place, yes you heard me correctly, Mike Tyson - not the sort of thing that happens to you everyday, lets be honest! I was taken aback at his humility and generosity. His days in the ring are a distant memory and his "Iron Mike" persona is a thing of the past, as he makes clear to me. But although he's a softly spoken man, he still exudes that charisma, presence and sense of power.
We sat there for a while with his wife, Lakiha Spicer, and his baby daughter. I never thought in a million years that I'd be sat on a sofa with one of my all-time idols exchanging Cus D'Amato quotes with him. It was surreal, yet will stay with me forever.
I delayed posting this blog entry for about a month out of a mark of respect to Mike Tyson and his family. As most people are now aware, Mike's 4 year old daughter, Exodus, was killed in a tragic accident in her home in Phoenix Arizona on May 26th. This was just a few days after I met him here in LA. My sincerest condolences are with Mike and his family along with those of the boxing community and well-wishers from around the world.
